Braces are uncomfortable, inconvenient, and in often unsightly. With the amount of time they remain in the mouth, they may also introduce a risk of tooth decay since they can get in the way of proper dental hygiene. Fast Braces technology allows for much faster treatment of misaligned teeth than traditional braces. But just how fast are they? And how do they differ from normal braces?
Normally, moving teeth into proper alignment takes a couple years. Thanks to their specialized design, Fast Braces accomplish this much more quickly. In some cases, Fast Braces straighten teeth in as few as 20 weeks. More commonly, however, they take about a year. This is far faster than traditional braces, which necessitate two years of use and 24/7 retainers afterward.
How do they do so much so quickly? The design of Fast Braces moves both the roots and the crowns of your teeth at the same time. Traditional braces, on the other hand, will move the crowns first, then the roots. The fact that Fast Braces will perform both these functions at the same time means they can work twice as quickly.
What Sets Them Apart?
Their speed is ultimately a result of their design. Traditional braces use square brackets that are used to move the crowns first, the roots second. Fast Braces have unique triangular brackets that can move the roots from the very start of treatment. Once the root is in proper position, so is the rest of the tooth.
Fast Braces also use a self-ligating bracket that automatically adjusts as teeth move gently into position. This eliminates the need for bands or extra wires to hold them in place.
Once the teeth are straight, there is also less need for retainers. Traditional braces require the use of retainers 24/7. On the other hand, Fast Braces only require the use of retainers for up to 20 minutes each day. This can be done in the shower or at night.
Ultimately, the speed of Fast Braces allows for much less time spent with uncomfortable, inconvenient brackets in your mouth. Their design is also more comfortable, making them less of a chore to use. In most cases, patients report less discomfort with Fast Braces than with traditional brackets.
The reduced time needed for Fast Braces also lowers their overall cost, both in terms of orthodontia and the potential for tooth decay. Since the brackets and retainers are on your teeth for less time overall, dental hygiene is much easier to maintain.
