People want straight, clean-looking smiles, but crooked or unevenly spaced teeth can mar that image. Usually, this is resolved by means of a long-term treatment with braces, which slowly push the teeth into proper alignment. While the end result is straighter teeth, most people don’t like waiting the two (or more) years it takes to get everything aligned properly. Braces can be uncomfortable, unsightly, and possibly interfere with normal dental hygiene.
It is for this purpose that Fastbraces were developed over 20 years ago. Fastbraces are designed to get teeth aligned in half the time of normal braces, thus reducing the embarrassment associated with having a metallic smile for a couple years.
To some, getting a proper smile in half the time seems a bit too good to be true, and they may wonder whether Fastbraces are safe. Surely there must be some tradeoff for their speed, one may think. Is there a risk of damage to the teeth? Will there be extra discomfort? Maybe there will be some adverse effect on the gums?
The answer to whether Fastbraces are truly safe is that they indeed are, but only as long as they are used properly. This means proper diagnosis is needed when determining the treatment needed. Fastbraces are not designed to handle extreme tooth misalignment, teeth stuck in bone, or issues related to TMJ disorder.
In 8 out of 10 cases, Fastbraces are appropriate to use. They have been extensively tested by various universities and have been successful in thousands of clinical trials over the last two decades. The fact that they do what they do so quickly is not a matter of cutting corners, but of clever design.
How They Work
With traditional braces, treatment comes in two steps. First, the frame moves the crowns of your teeth into position, which usually takes about a year. The second phase then moves the roots.
Fastbraces, on the other hand, are designed to perform both of these steps simultaneously. The triangular bracket design they use gently torques the teeth into position without the amount of sensitivity associated with traditional braces. This allows them to do their work faster, often showing results within the first three months.
Benefits of Fastbraces
In addition to being fast and safe to use, Fastbraces have a number of other benefits as well. These include the following:
- Cleaner: Since Fastbraces are on your teeth for less time than normal braces, they pose less of an obstacle to normal hygiene practices (brushing, flossing, etc.). This means that you have less of a chance of developing tooth decay and other issues while wearing braces.
- Less strain: The reduced time of Fastbraces also means less time that your teeth are under strain. Their design further limits the stress placed on teeth, meaning there is less chance of cracking, chipping, and other damage to the teeth over the course of the treatment.
- Better aesthetic quality: Fastbraces are available in clear and tooth-colored styles, further eliminating the “metal mouth” look.
